John Adams Gives His Opinion of Benjamin Franklin
John Adams was asked one day what he thought about Benjamin Franklin.
John Adams had a more bludgeoning technique when debating an opponent. In a heated debate during the Continental Congress, Adams stood and had some fiery words against one of the other delegates.
Afterwards, Benjamin Franklin took John Adams to a tavern where Franklin attempted to give Adams some advice.
A very good version of this “talk” is from the HBO series “John Adams” –
This is what John Adams had to say about Benjamin Franklin:
“He had wit at will. He had humor that when he pleased was pleasant and delightful . . . talents for irony, allegory, and fable, that he could adapt with great skill, to the promotion of moral and political truth.”
